Not Every Airboat is the Same!

Orlando Airboat Tours

Believe it or not, airboats aren’t only used in our Orlando airboat rides, but they can contribute to a number of other industries and have a variety of functions! Every airboat has generally the same components, but their designs and uses make them a very versatile vehicle. Here are a number of different ways that we can utilize airboats to make some jobs quite a bit easier!

Touring: This of course is what Wild Florida is known for! Orlando airboat rides use custom build tour boats that are meant for larger groups of people, typically holding between 8 and 15 passengers. Many airboats used for tours have custom handrails, guardrails and bench-style seating.

Law Enforcement: These type of airboats are smaller than a touring airboat, and only hold around 1 to 4 people. They are built for speed and reliability, and are used by police, coast guards, border patrol and more. Law enforcement airboats have some of the same characteristics as a police car, including searchlights, red and blue lights, and reflective stripes.

Hunting/Fishing: Recreational airboats can be custom built to hold about 2 to 5 passengers and often have a camouflage design. Like other boats, they can include GPS, rod holders, hand rails, and marine VHF radios. They are not built for speed, but more for agility; they are smaller than other airboats so fishermen can go deeper into trees and other foliage.

Search and Rescue: These airboats are built for harsher conditions. Some airboats may include a small cabin or windshield to protect the airboat captain and passengers from the weather. Similar to law enforcement airboats, they can be built with search and strobe lights, GPS, and can also include a platform for a stretcher.

Aquatic Vegetation Control: You can see these guys in swamps and wetlands, but not on our Orlando airboat rides. Many come equipped with a weed and pest management spray system for the control of invasive plants and insects. They typically have seating for about 2 to 4 passengers and are widely used around South Florida.
