An Adventure at Any Age

Everyone loves an adventure! Defined as an exciting and unusual activity or experience, it’s a chance to do something unexpected and out of the ordinary. Going on vacations, taking an airboat ride, or romping through an uninhabited forest gives us a chance to get lost and participate in a life-changing experience.

As we age, the adventurous side of us still yearns for a new experience, but it’s a little hesitant to go out and explore. Adventurous and recreational activities are very important to our social behavior--it plays an especially important role in the lives of aging adults. An exciting outing with the family, or with friends, will actually improve an older adult’s quality of life and their satisfaction.

There are also physical health benefits to be gained from an exciting adventure. Most adventurous activities, excluding cinematic adventures, involve a significant amount of walking. That physical activity will help elderly family members reduce their risk of heart disease, lower their blood pressure, and decrease their chance for developing colon cancer and diabetes. An occasional adventure can also help an older individual develop better coping behaviors in response to the stressful situations surrounding the aging process.

Don’t think of the elderly years as a time of diminishing mind, body, and social interaction--instead think of it as the time to educate and experience activities with family and friends. Engaging in new activity keeps us young at heart, and just because we age doesn't mean we can't have any fun.

Your grandma has earned that grey hair from years of adventure, so let her show it off proudly at Wild Florida. We love grandma’s grey hair so much that we tailor each airboat ride to fit multigenerational groups and senior citizens. Bring the family for a wonderful, educational adventure, and learn all about Florida’s wildlife and ecosystem.
