Wildlife Expedition Participants Speak at UCF about Florida Trek

Posted by Wild Florida on February 24,2014 10:33:AM

In 2012, four members of the Florida Wildlife Corridor took part in a 1,000 mile trek of Florida where they hiked, paddled, biked and rode horses. Recently, these four explorers visited the University of Central Florida on Wednesday, February 19 to present a documentary of their over three month long journey. The purpose of the journey was to draw attention to the need for a continuous path of protected lands along the length of the state.

The Expedition began in the Southern Everglades, and then followed the Everglades, the Kissimmee River, St. Johns River and the Suwannee River. The expedition was joined by several different parties in short increments including ranchers and environmentalists.

Carlton Ward Jr., a professional photographer and the expedition organizer, published an award-winning book titled Florida Wildlife Corridor Expedition: Everglades to Okefenokee. A documentary of the same name was shot by team member Elam Stoltzfus.

The documentary presentation will happen on Wednesday evening at the Fairwinds Alumni Center in UCF. The reception starts at 5:30pm and the documentary will be presented at 6:30pm with a panel discussion to follow.

If you’re interested in going to the event, it is free and seating will be on a first come, first serve basis. Wild Florida celebrates all forms of Florida wildlife, natural Florida, and Florida airboats. To learn more about Wild Florida, visit our website.
