A 2-foot-long alligator managed to be captured by Chicago police after being found underneath an escalator at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. This discovery was made on Friday in Terminal 3 on the Lower Level. The alligator was safely transported to the Chicago Herpetological Society.
The alligator was only 3 years old and was found “in distress” according to the Chicago Herpetological Society. “Allie” the alligator was found with metabolic bone deficiency, which likely means its diet was poor and it lacked calcium for some time. Allie will need some time to recover after spending an unknown amount of time on the concrete flooring at the airport.
Alligators are used to living in temperatures of 85 to 90 degrees and can grow up to four feet long. Allie is considered a “juvenile” and is about 24 inches long, which is considered to be small for its age.
Allie will live in a quarantine until it gets healthy again due to the jarring environment of the cold concrete in Chicago. “Some human being physically carried it there and put it there,’’ said the spokesman of the Chicago Herpetogical Society. “It’s not big enough to operate automatic doors. It could have gotten into baggage. . .What if it had gotten on the tarmac or run over by a plane?’’
