Wild Florida, Central Florida’s only Airboat, Gator Park, and Drive-thru Safari Park, has awarded scholarships to local students for the third consecutive year. This week, the park distributed $6,000 to six Osceola County high school seniors who have shown exceptional academic achievement, leadership qualities, and a commitment to conservation.
The scholarship recipients were honored during the Education Foundation Osceola County’s Scholarship Program, which celebrated its 30th anniversary on April 24. The event, held at Osceola Heritage Park, saw students, their families, and friends gather in anticipation of the scholarship announcements. A record of 500 scholarships valued at over $1.1 million dollars were awarded that evening.
“We're deeply appreciative of the chance to invest in our future generation through our Wild Florida Cares Scholarship,” said PJ Brown, Director of Sales at Wild Florida. “This year's awards ceremony provided us with the honor of connecting with our recipients, reaffirming that our scholarships are indeed making a positive impact.”
Funds for the Wild Florida Cares Scholarship are raised during Gator Week, which usually takes place the last week of May, attracts wildlife enthusiasts, tourists, and locals to celebrate Florida's iconic reptile, the American alligator. To encourage donations, guests are offered free entry to the Gator Park when they donate to the Wild Florida Cares Scholarship upon entry. This exciting week-long event features a variety of educational and entertaining activities, live alligator demonstrations, interactive shows, and airboat rides through the headwaters of the Florida Everglades.
This year, Gator Week will run from May 27 to June 1, during which Wild Florida aims to raise even more funds for next year’s scholarship program. To date, the park has provided over $13,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors in Osceola County.
